The roots of Hermann Nitsch’s Theatre of Orgies and Mysteries are primarily philosophical and musical. Nitsch’s musical œuvre, which is between of Anton Bruckner and John Cage, comprises not only “action music” but also symphonies, ensemble and organ works. This seminar provides an intensive immersion into the philosophical/musical world of Hermann Nitsch and his Orgies Mysteries Theatre. With audio samples featuring commentary, Nitsch’s music is linked more closely with his entire œuvre.
